Valiant 4th for Dillon at British University Championships
Defending champion Dillon Ryan Brunel University competed in the Long Jump at the British University Outdoor Track & Field Championships last Bank Holiday Weekend at the Manchester Regional Arena which is adjacent to the Manchester City football stadium. Dillon came through the qualifying round on Sunday May 5th Qualifying with ease on his first official jump which took him to the finals on Monday May 6th where he gave a valiant defence of his title with a season's best jump of 7.03m which garnered a 4th place finish amongst a packed field of quality athletes alas it was not to be for Dillon in his last outing at the BUCS but he has already made history there winning Bronze Indoor & Gold Outdoors in 2023 aswell as Silver in the All Ireland U23s Championships it's been a fantastic past couple of years for Dillon. With the Support of his Family & Coach Danny Sawyers He will now rest up and prepare for the next chapter with the Summer Season and All Ireland Championships still to come, Well done Dillon and Best of Luck.
Mockler Breaks own Indiana Record
Super Congrats to Sean Mockler Indiana University who broke his own college record in the Hammer throw in Bloomington Indiana last Friday May 3rd, pushing his mark to 68.82m/225-09. He currently ranks in the top-20 in the USA NCAA, with the 17th best mark. Next event for Sean will be the Big 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Michigan on May 10-12th which is the Blue ribbon event in the NCAA calendar The best of luck to Sean and his Indiana teammates.
Club Represented in Style in Denmark
On May 5th: Mossy Bracken had a fantastic run in the Copenhagen Marathon finishing in 52nd place overall out of 15,000 runners in a Great time and a New Personal Best of 2:31:53 Well done Mossy. He was supported on the day by club-mate Sean Healy who also completed the 26.2 Miles despite hitting the wall persevered to cross the finishing line in 3hrs 48mins&13 seconds Congrats Sean.
Great Limerick Run
The Regeneron Great Limerick Run took place last Sunday May 5th with 3 races of differing distances:In the 6 Mile race Olivia Coughlan-Quinlan ran very well finishing in 60mins&46seconds. In the Half Marathon race Matthew Ryan had a super run finishing 7th place overall in a new personal best of 1:14:14. In the full marathon Donie Bergin had a great run in the sun in a fine time of 3hrs31mins&25 secs. Great running by all.
BK5K Road Race Result
The Brendan Kinnane Memorial BK 5K road race attracted a large turn-out of 253 runners on Wednesday May 1st in Sunny conditions. John Fogarty was representing the club having a good run to break the 18 min mark in 17:55 in 24th place overall and 2nd O45 Well done John.
Irish Runner Visit on May 13th
On Monday May 13th we will be welcoming Frank Greally from the Irish Runner Magazine to our Fit 4 life Session who will be doing an article for a future edition of the magazine Frank is a fountain of knowledge in athletics and was an athlete in his own right in his younger days with Donore Harriers AC where he set an Irish Junior record for the 10,000m of 30mins & 17 seconds when he was 19 years old which stood for 52 years and earned him a scholarship with East Tennesse in America. He has also represented Ireland for Cross Country in 1972. All are Welcome to attend and we hope we can get a good turnout of support.
