New Events & Challenging Terrain in this Popular Series!
January 12, 2024
Saturday, January 13th, sees the Galway Cross Country Series continue from Doughiska Park. Carrying the momentum of a successful opening two weeks, Run Republic spoke to Galway Cross Country Series organiser Sean McDermott about what lies ahead in Week 3!
'The park has seen cross country activity every year since 2017, either with the Castlegar Open Cross Country or Tribal Running organised events.
'It's a super location with no shortage of natural obstacles and challenging terrain on which to set out a Cross country course.
Saturday will see the usual two short mixed races over a course of 2km, as well as the longer course race of 5km on the day. Furthermore, a new "Fun Country Race" of 600m will be introduced to the series for the first time.
Sean told Run Republic that he is delighted to open the event to younger age groups (6-10 years), and that the course will have 'lots of fun obstacles as an introduction to the sport of athletics and the Cross country events.
'Cross country is probably one of the most spectator friendly events in Athletics and each week so far all races have been exciting to watch.'
With the new event added to this great series, families will be hard-pressed to find a better option to get active together anywhere!
People are advised to get to Doughiska Park early on the morning of the race, and there are limited entries on the day between 10am and 10:30am if you haven't already done so online. You can sign up for the event online here!
Saturday promises to be an action-packed morning, with chip-timed racing and complimentary refreshments afterwards, you don't want to miss out on this family friendly event!
