Naomh Mhuire AC 5K: A Spectacular Evening in Daingean

On Friday, June 14th, Naomh Mhuire AC hosted their highly anticipated 5K race, delivering an unforgettable experience, which served as Round Six of the Healthy Offaly 5k Race Series.
The race attracted an impressive turnout, featuring athletes from Offaly and surrounding areas. Mullingar Harriers Athletic Club showcased a strong presence with 22 athletes, while St. Michael's AC brought 16 runners to the event.
The Daingean course, known for its flat and fast terrain, provided an ideal setting for runners aiming to achieve personal bests. The event was impeccably organised, with stewards ensuring clear guidance and support throughout.
The local community came out in full force to support the runners, particularly along the main street of Daingean, where spectators cheered on the 364 participants. This vibrant atmosphere was a highlight of the evening for many.
The race witnessed outstanding performances and impressive times. Paul Mitchell of Tullamore Harriers emerged victorious, finishing the race in 15:35. Mick Fogarty from Ferbane AC closely followed, securing second place with a time of 15:38. Kevin Minnock, also from Tullamore Harriers, claimed third place with a time of 15:50.
In the women's category, Heather Murphy from St. Michael's AC continued her streak of podium finishes in the series, crossing the line as the fastest woman. Sarah Flanagan from Tullamore Harriers AC finished in second place, while Glenda Shaw from Mullingar Harriers secured third.
With only two races remaining in the Healthy Offaly 5K Race Series, the anticipation is palpable. The upcoming events hosted by Rhode AC and Birr AC promise more thrilling competition and community involvement. Naomh Mhuire AC have set a high bar, and the runners, volunteers, and supporters are eagerly looking forward to the final stages of this exciting series.
