Streets of Portlaoise 5k

On Sunday Moyne AC were well represented in the Streets of Portlaois 5k road race. In a high-class field with over 800 runners Dylan McLaughlin was our first athlete over the line. Dylan got his 2024 season up and running finishing in a time of 17:27 to come home in 64th. Brian Carroll was the next Moyne athlete over the line finishing in a great time of 18:57. The lads will be well set for the county novice next weekend in Moyne. Martin Kiely made a return to racing in the green and gold running a great time of 27:42. Mindy Doyle made her competitive debut for the club running an excellent time of 29.48, a PB for Mindy. A special mention must go to Martin and Mindy as they have come through the couch to 5k programme in flying form and enjoying their running.

European Master Indoors

All eyes switch to Toruń, Poland next week for the European Master Indoor Championships.

Ber Spillane will be competing in the 60m and the 200m.

Ber had had an impressive indoor season so far, winning county indoors titles in the over 40 category in the 60m (8.74) and 200m (29.23) on the 7th of January in Nenagh. Ber continued her fine indoor form running 3 PB’s at the National Master Indoor Championships in mid-January. Here Ber ran a 8.55 to claim a bronze in the 60m, 28.79 to finish 5th in the 200m and 65.98 to claim a silver medal in the 400m. On the 8th of February Ber continued her indoor season with another trip to Nenagh to take part in the Munster Master Indoor Championships. Here Ber claimed a silver in the 60m (8.79), a gold in the 200m (29.61) and another gold in the 400m (1.06.33).

Best of luck Ber and enjoy every minute of it. We will all be keeping a close eye on the action over the coming days. Best of luck to all of the Irish team also.
