Mountain Majesty: Glengarriff's IMRA Munster Race Spectacular

On Sunday, May 5th, Glengarriff was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the fourth race in the Fog in the Bog League. Athletes and enthusiasts alike gathered to test their mettle against the challenging terrain, all under the watchful gaze of a picturesque day with stunning views enhancing the experience.
The long course, stretching across 11 kilometres with a demanding elevation gain of 550 metres. In a display of exceptional athleticism and determination, the winners emerged triumphant. In the female category, Sorcha Kearney claimed the top spot, followed by Gobnait Ni Mhuimhneachain in second place and Tricia Twohig securing the third position. On the male side, Paul Cleary showcased his prowess by clinching first place, trailed by Aidan O'Brien in second and Conor O'Brien securing the third spot.
The short course race was equally thrilling, with competitors navigating a challenging route. Geraldine Breen emerged victorious in the female category, followed closely by Angela Kelleher. Among the male contenders, Darragh Coppinger claimed the first position, with Cathal D'hondt and Erwin D'hondt securing second and third places, respectively.
The success of such events is not just about the winners but also about the collective spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie that permeates the atmosphere. Credit goes to Race Director Gerard Harrington and his dedicated team of volunteers whose efforts ensured a smooth and memorable experience for all participants.
As the dust settles on Glengarriff's thrilling race, the IMRA Munster calendar marches forward with the upcoming Tomies / Purple Mountain race scheduled for Sunday, May 12th. This race marks the beginning of the Munster Championship, promising another round of thrilling challenges and remarkable achievements in the realm of mountain running.
