May Bank Holiday kicks off with a bang at Deadman’s 5k

Fitness enthusiasts in the South Tipperary and surrounding area were given a great chance to kick off the bank holiday weekend with the hosting of the annual Deadman’s 5km road race in Carrick-on-Suir as race 2 of the Outfield Sports 3 counties summer series.
The field of 84 runners were blessed with ideal conditions for this challenging course with undulating hills for 2/3 of the course up and across the “dead man’s boreen” followed by a flying finish for the final 3rd.
On the competitive side, the men’s race was hotly contested with Pat Fitzgerald establishing a gap which he would never relinquish. Pat from Waterford AC came home in 16.20 for the win with Craig O’Brien for Ferrybank AC in 2nd. JP Treacy of St Finbarrs was 3rd in 17.59.
In the female event, Yet again it was Keeley Tideswell of Clonmel AC who led the way in a very impressive time of 17.41. She was followed by Grainne Moore, still a junior, of West Waterford AC in a very good time of 19.40. in 3rdwas Aisling English. The rest of the prizes are as follows:

The strawberries and ice-cream were suitably devoured afterwards at the presentation with all of the finishers in great spirits.
We are down to the last race of the series now so put the date in your diaries for Portlaw 5 mile road race, Friday May 31st at 7.30. As usual, entry online will be via eventmaster for €10 and on the night for €15. Cash prizes for all categories.
