How I'm getting focused on running again...
January 24, 2017
I was really struggling with focus. I’m not a member of an athletics club or running group. I try to motivate myself but sometimes after a long day, you just want to put your feet up. The weather is never going to be in your favour. But as we are moving into spring and an embarrassment of riches when it comes to races, I need to get back into the swing of things.
It’s all about setting goals, joining local running groups, joining online groups and entering races. You need clear goals to keep the mind focused.
I have joined a local running group, rejoining my old athletics club and getting involved in online debate for running. All this gets you so far, but to really get my mind focused, I have entered the Maratona Sant Antonio in Padova, Italy.
Only 88 days away and loving distance running, I have decided this is as good a time as any to throw myself headfirst back into running.
So on Day 2 of 90, I have just completed 2 5K runs. It’s hardly fantastic, I know but my goal is to ramp up the miles pretty quick. The goal I have set myself is to run a PB in Padova, a sub 3:20. This will take guts and hard work. I have races entered to get myself back in gear and to have goals which are around the corner.
I have to work on core strength too, diet and more besides. I’m focused on the next 5 days and getting the miles up. The rest will follow. So how am I getting focused? It’s all about setting goals, joining local running groups, joining online groups and entering races. You need clear goals to keep the mind focused. Writing regular blogs will help too.
