Eyeries Loop Attracts Great Numbers

Last night marked yet another action-packed chapter in the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League as the Eyeries Coastguard Station Loop hosted its eighth race. The event witnessed a remarkable surge in participation, with entries doubling from the previous year. A significant contingent from Beara AC added to the lively atmosphere, underscoring the league's growing popularity.

The course, spanning 8 kilometres with an elevation gain of 200 metres, presented a challenging yet invigorating mix of surfaces that tested the mettle of all participants. The runners navigated a variety of terrains, each demanding a unique blend of agility and endurance.

In the men’s category, Tommy Arthur of Lagan Valley AC claimed victory with an impressive time of 33:04. He was followed by Bobby Tangney from Kenmare AC, who finished at 35:14, and Joe O’Leary of St. Finbarrs AC, clocking in at 37:43. The women’s race saw Ellen Vitting from Kenmare AC take the top spot with a time of 37:50. Deirdre O’Sullivan of Beara AC secured second place, finishing in 40:06, while Amy Arthur from Kenmare AC came in third at 50:30. The junior female category was dominated by Beara AC, with Laoise O’Sullivan finishing first at 26:08.

The enthusiasm and competitive spirit displayed by all participants were truly commendable. The event not only highlighted individual athleticism but also underscored the strong community presence, particularly from the Beara AC club.

The excitement of the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League continues with the next race scheduled to take place in Lisvernane/Aherlow, Tipperary, on Sunday, July 28th. Runners are eagerly anticipating this upcoming challenge, as the league progresses through its thrilling calendar this month.
