A Triumphant Finale for the Inaugural Rebel Diamond League in Buttevant

Last weekend marked a momentous occasion for the running community as Buttevant Running Club hosted the finale of the inaugural Rebel Diamond League. The event was a resounding success, marked by enthusiastic participation from club members, experienced and novice runners, as well as the local community.
The race itself was executed flawlessly, much like the previous three events in the league, thanks to the dedication and support of numerous volunteers. From the efficient carpark stewards to the smooth number collection process, every aspect was well-organised. The course, though challenging between miles two and three, was praised for its fairness and provided a true test for all participants.
Gavin Sweeney of Togher AC emerged as the overall winner, showcasing remarkable speed and skill. In the female category, Michelle Kenny from Leevale AC took top honours, further highlighting the competitive nature of the event. The team prize was claimed by Mallow AC, adding another layer of celebration to the night. A total of 273 runners crossed the finish line, each adding to the vibrant tapestry of the event.
Participants were thrilled with their Buttevant RC goodie bags, which featured a special insulated travel mug—a token of appreciation for their efforts and participation. Additionally, those who completed the Rebel Diamond League were rewarded with a commemorative finisher’s mug, a cherished keepsake marking their achievement.
The post-race celebration was equally memorable, with a generous spread of refreshments and an opportunity for runners and supporters to catch up and revel in the evening’s success.
With 35 different clubs represented, the climax truly encapsulated the spirit of the Rebel Diamond League, fostering a sense of unity and shared accomplishment. The positive feedback from all involved has set a high standard for future events, while also solidifying Buttevant RC's reputation for hosting outstanding races.
Overall, it was a night to remember, marked by excellent organisation, spirited competition, and a strong sense of community. The inaugural Rebel Diamond League has set the stage for many more successful editions in the years to come.
