The Next Generation - Molly Daly
February 1, 2024
This week’s instalment of The Next Generation series sees us highlight the emerging Kilkenny City Harriers athlete Molly Daly!
Turning 16 at the end of March, the Harriers prospect comes from a strong athletic family, with both of her parents being former athletes themselves, Fiona Norwood and Robert Daly.
Daly, who competes in the hurdles over 300m and the sprints over 60m and 200m, is coached by her parents and is coming into the 2024 season in great form after a successful 2023 campaign.
Last year saw Molly perform brilliantly over the 300m hurdles with the Kilkenny athlete capturing the Irish Schools 300m hurdles title, before finishing 3rd in the 300m hurdles at the Schools Internationals in Scotland in July.
Molly also captured gold medals over 200m when she won both the indoor and outdoor 2023 Irish Championships over the distance.
Molly achieved the 200m U18 European standard just 2 weeks ago and hopes to stay fit and healthy as she aims to be selected. ‘All going to plan [she] would like to advance from the heats at the Europeans’.
Daly wants to focus on the 200m for the 2024 season and may well compete in a couple of hurdles races also.
With PB’s of 7.89 over 60m, 24.54 over 200m, and 43.42 over 300m, Daly certainly has the potential to achieve her goals for 2024, and if she can stay fit and healthy, we are sure she will continue to make her family and club proud!
