June 11, 2024
The Tribal Running Track and Field Tour made a triumphant return to Sligo for its fourth meet of the 2024 edition last week. The event, held at the Knocknarea Arena, saw a great turnout, reflecting the growing appeal of the tour across various demographics. Run Republic had the opportunity to speak with the tour’s organiser, Sean McDermott, to gain insights into the success of the event and its significance for the athletics community.
McDermott expressed his satisfaction with the participation levels, noting a strong presence of Masters athletes at the Knocknarea Arena. The turnout of Masters athletes showcases the broad appeal of Tribal Running. Many students participated back on May 9th for Meet 2, and McDermott noted that it’s gratifying to see such diverse age groups being willing and now able to compete.
The inclusive nature of the event was a point of pride for McDermott, who emphasised the importance of providing competitive opportunities for athletes of all ages and backgrounds. "Everyone is always very happy to have races to take part in, and that's what makes me proud. I love to give people the chance to compete" he added.
Athletes from Monaghan, Donegal, and other neighbouring counties flocked to Sligo, contributing to a vibrant and competitive atmosphere. The camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by participants underscored the community spirit that Tribal Running fosters through its events.
The Sligo meet not only highlighted the tour’s regional impact but also set the stage for the final meet of the 2024 tour, scheduled for June 18th in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick. As the tour draws to a close, anticipation is building for what promises to be a spectacular finale.
The Tribal Running Track and Field Tour continues to make a significant mark on the athletics landscape, bringing together athletes from all walks of life to celebrate the joy of running.
