Hello, Run Republic Runners!

We're nearing the end of January, and it’s time for a little New Year’s resolution check-in. How are those running goals coming along? Are you sticking to your new training regime? I'm here to cheer you on, but also offer some crucial advice on understanding when it's time to consult a physio.

1. Aches and Niggles: Normal or a Red Flag?

It's typical to experience some muscle soreness, especially if you’ve recently upped your training. But how do you distinguish between normal aches & pains and something more serious? If you're facing persistent pain, discomfort that increases during a run, or soreness that doesn't improve with rest, it's time to book an appointment with a physio.

2. The Full MOT: Regular Check-Ins for Runners

You wouldn’t wait for your car to break down before you service it, so don't wait for a full-blown injury to see a physio. Regular 'MOTs' or check-ups can be a game-changer. A physio can assess your muscular strength, flexibility, joint health, and running form, helping to identify potential issues before they turn into injuries.

3. How Often Should You See a Physio?

The frequency of your visits to a physio depends on your level of training. For casual runners, a check-up every 4-6 months may suffice. If you're ramping up your training for an event, consider more regular visits. For high-level athletes, a weekly or fortnightly session can be vital in maintaining optimal performance and preventing injuries.

4. Prevention: The Best Form of Cure

Remember, prevention is always better than cure. Regular physio sessions can help in maintaining your running health, guiding you in proper training techniques, and ensuring you're at your best. It's an investment in your health and your running future.

5. Don't Ignore the Signs

Listen to your body. It gives you signals when something isn’t right. Pay attention to these signs and don’t brush them off. Early intervention can mean the difference between a minor issue and a major setback.

So, as you continue your journey into this new year, keep those running shoes laced up, but also keep in mind the importance of professional guidance. Stay vigilant about how your body feels, and remember, a visit to the physio is not just for injuries, it's for preventing them.
