Moycarkey Coolcroo Athletes Anna, David & Sean Shine at National Stage
July 3, 2024
On Day 1 of the National Track & Field Championships in Santry last Weekend, Anna Ryan was first up to represent the club in the Women's Triple Jump, Amongst a high-quality field Anna knew she had to jump close to her best or even better to feature and she did just that despite the wet weather conditions Jumping a new Outdoor best of 12.03m to win a brilliant Bronze medal (not far off her indoor best of 12.17m) She was a bit hard on herself afterward saying '' Ideally not where I want to be this season but making the most of it'' But any day you win a National medal is a good day, Well done Anna. Her older brother David Ryan was up next in the Mens 400m Heats with the Winner in each to automatically qualify with the 3 fastest times from all the finishers to compete for the medals on the Sunday. David was drawn in Heat 5 the last one of the day so he knew he had to run fast regardless of placing, he went on to win a great race winning his heat in 47.15 seconds which was captured in a nice image by photographer Perri Williams. In the final on Sunday only 1 second separated the 1st 5 runners with David just finishing outside the medal placings on this occasion finishing in 5th place in a new personal best time of 47.02 a great championship performance nonetheless from David. In the Field events on Sunday Sean Mockler made history yet again Defending his National Hammer title for the 4th year in a row with a best throw of the day of 66.22m despite his injury setbacks throughout the year to win an All-Ireland Gold is no mean feat Well done Sean Fantastic achievement. Well done to all the aforementioned athletes whose efforts helped rank Moycarkey Coolcroo AC in 19th place in the medal points tally over the weekend out of over 40 other clubs around the country. You did us all proud.
