Tomorrow evening, the scenic Currabinny Woods will host the 11th race of the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League, offering participants a thrilling blend of fast stretches and challenging hills. The Currabinny Trail race, spanning 7km with an elevation gain of approximately 100 metres, promises to be an exciting and accessible event for both seasoned trail runners and beginners. The race is set to kick off at 7:00pm sharp.
Located with stunning views overlooking Cork Harbour, Currabinny Woods is the perfect setting for a trail race. The course is well-known for its varied terrain, providing runners with a mix of flat, fast sections and a few hills that add to the challenge without being overwhelming. For those new to trail running or looking for a shorter challenge, a 3km short course option is also available, starting at 6:30pm. This route, with an elevation gain of approximately 50 metres, takes runners on a loop through the woods, offering a taste of trail running in a more compact format.
The evening will begin with a kids' race at 6:15pm, a short and fun event of less than 1km, designed to introduce young runners to the excitement of trail running. It’s a great opportunity for families to enjoy the sport together in a beautiful natural setting.
The event is open to all, and participants of all levels are encouraged to join. Whether you’re aiming for a fast time or simply want to experience the beauty of trail running, the Currabinny Trail race offers something for everyone.
Zita Hoey, the Race Director, has ensured that the event will be well-organised and enjoyable for all participants.
