Conor Penney Sets New Personal Best in High Jump at Galway Outdoor Championships
May 23, 2024
Conor Penney of Craughwell AC set his first outdoor competition of the year alight almost two weeks ago, demonstrating his impressive high jump form on Day 1 of the Galway Outdoor Championships. His performance was a highlight of the event, capturing the attention of both spectators and competitors.
Having covered some of Conor's achievements already this year, Run Republic decided to speak to Penney's sprints and hurdles coach Ronnie Warde to talk about the milestone now that the dust has settled.
Warde noted that Penney appeared very relaxed throughout the day of the competition, which undoubtedly contributed to his success. Penney soared to a new personal best of 2.05 metres, showcasing his dedication and continuous strive for improvement. He then made several solid attempts at 2.08 meters, although he couldn't quite clear that height on this occasion.
Warde expressed his admiration for Penney's performance, stating that he "looked phenomenal" on the day. This new PB is a testament to Penney's hard work and his promising future in high jump.
Massive credit must go to Mike Tobin, Penney's high jump coach, for all the hard work he has put in to get Conor to this point. There is also belief within the camp that the 2.08 mark is not too far away!
The rate of improvement that the young Craughwell AC athlete is showing in hugely impressive and Run Republic are excited to see what comes next for this talented athlete.
