Throwback Thursday: Watch Kate O'Connor's 7 Event Path to Silver at the Tokyo Worlds

Kate O’Connor’s sensational 2025 season hit new heights less than two weeks ago as she stormed to silver in the heptathlon at the World Athletics Games. Already boasting bronze from the European Indoors and silver at the World Indoors, not to mention her stunning national record and gold medal at the University Games, the Newry born athlete once again delivered on the biggest stage.

In a superb display that saw her firing out personal bests across the disciplines, O’Connor smashed her own Irish record on the way to the podium with a final tally of 6714 points, sealing Ireland’s first track and field medal at the World Championships since Sonia O’Sullivan. 

It might feel a little early to file this under “throwback,” but no excuse is needed to revisit a performance a superb performance by the world class Irish multi-eventer.

100m Hurdles - 3rd - 13.44 PB - 1059 points

 

High Jump - 4th - 1.86m PB - 1054 points

 

Shot Put Group A - 5th - 14.37m- 819 points

 

200m Heat 1 - 3rd - 24.07 PB - 974 points

 

Day 2 of the Heptathlon 

Long Jump Group B - 1st - 6.22m - 918 points

 

Javelin Throw - 1st - 53.06m PB - 919 points

 

800m - 4th - 2:09.56 PB - 972 points

Total Points = 1216 points NR & 2nd Place Silver
