Patrick finished in 191st overall with a time of 01:29:48. Brian finished in 351st overall with a time of 01:35:56. Well done lads on the great performances.
National Juvenile Uneven Ages XC Championships.
On Sunday, 9 juvenile and 4 senior athletes made the trip to Tramore racecourse to compete in the National Championships. With heavy rain the week before, the difficult course was made all the more challenging for the huge fields of athletes on every start line.
First up were the u11 girls, in their debut National cross country event. With a club team in this event, we had lots to cheer for. Annie Ely ran a great race, storming around the course to finish 37th in a time of 6.05. She was followed home by Meadhbh Hall in 73rd in a time of 6.16, and Órlaith Costigan who was 98th in 6.26. Stepping up in age the pair of Poppy Shanahan (123rd, 6.37) and Quinn Corbett (129th, 6.38) finished close together. The girls club team were a super 12th overall, and Annie, Meadhbh and Órlaith were 1st, 2nd and 5th scorers on the Tipperary team that finished 9th.
Disaster struck in the boys u11 for Darragh Joyce as a injury on the start line forced him to withdraw. I'm sure there are many brighter days ahead. Next up was Matthew Esmonde, running out of age in the u13 boys over 2500m. Following on from a great performance in Enniskillen, Matthew steadily made his way through the pack to finish 84th in 9.39. Matthew was 4th scorer on the Tipperary team that finished 7th.
Our final Juvenile on the day, Alana Spillane ran a clever race, gradually making her way through the centre of the field to finish 31st in 18.10. This super performance saw her finish as the 6th scorer on the Munster team who were 2nd overall. A well earned first National inter-provincial medal for Alana - Congratulations!!
National Novice XC Championships.
Once the juvenile action concluded in Tramore it was time for our novice ladies team to take to the course. Sharon Cantwell led the way for the Moyne A.C. ladies team finishing with an excellent top 30 finish in 27th place in a time of 16:11. Eileen Ely was next across the line in 40th place with a time of 16:32, followed closely behind by Louise Fogarty in 43rd with a time of 16:42. Lisa Quinlan was the fourth member of the team across the line with a great run finishing in 91st position overall with a time of 18:29. The ladies finished 7th overall out of 16 club teams. Sharon and Eileen were also scoring members of the Tipperary team that finished just outside the medals in 4th position overall. Well done ladies on the great performances.
