July 26, 2024
This Sunday, July 28th, at 12pm, trail runners from across the region will arrive at Lisvernane village for the highly anticipated Lisvernane/Aherlow race. This 11.5km race, featuring a challenging 313m elevation gain, is the ninth instalment in the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League.
The race kicks off from the aforementioned village of Lisvernane with a short but demanding uphill road section, quickly transitioning onto a scenic trail. Competitors will then face a single uphill forest trail that merges into a fast fire road section, setting the stage for a variety of terrain challenges. A final short uphill pull will test runners' endurance before they embark on a thrilling descent. The downhill trail promises a mix of mud and technical sections, winding through the trees and demanding both skill and agility. The course concludes with a return to a pleasant trail leading back to the finish line.
Marie O'Shea, the race director for this one, has meticulously designed this course to ensure it offers a balance of difficulty and enjoyment, making it a standout event in the IMRA Munster calendar. The Lisvernane/Aherlow race not only challenges participants with its varied terrain and elevation changes but also rewards them with stunning natural scenery throughout the route.
This race marks the culmination of an action-packed July for the IMRA Munster, promising an exciting finish to the month for all involved. Whether you're a seasoned trail runner or new to the sport, the Lisvernane/Aherlow race is set to be another great experience, showcasing the best of what the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League has to offer.
