The McKinney Games, due to take place this coming Saturday October 4th at the Eikon Centre near Lisburn, has been postponed following the arrival of Storm Amy.

Organisers confirmed the decision earlier today, citing safety concerns as forecasts predict winds of up to 50mph along with heavy rain across Northern Ireland this weekend. With thousands of participants signed up across seven races ranging from the 5K to the marathon, the event had been billed as a major new addition to the running calendar.

In a statement, McKinney Games said:

“With huge disappointment, we must announce that this Saturday’s McKinney Games has been postponed due to Storm Amy and the weather warnings in place. We were excited for a massive celebration of community, sport, and determination, but we can’t deliver the safe and unforgettable experience you deserve and we had planned. Your safety comes first.”'

The team confirmed they are already working with vendors and partners to secure a new date in Spring 2026, with full details to follow in the coming weeks.

All registered participants will be automatically rolled over to the rescheduled date, though a refund option is also available by contacting hello@mckinney.games

The postponement is the latest in a series of sporting events disrupted by Storm Amy, which has brought severe weather warnings across the island. For runners, it means an unexpected wait to experience what promised to be one of the biggest new race days of the year.
