Middle distance star Ciara Mageean has confirmed that her autobiography, My Greatest Race, will be released on June 18th of this year.
Mageean shared the news on Facebook, revealing that the book has been written alongside Cliona Foley and will be published by Gill Books. The autobiography traces her life in athletics, covering major championship success, difficult periods away from the track and the people who have shaped her career.
Announcing the project via her social media channels, Mageean described the book as one she had long wanted to write. “My Greatest Race is the story I’ve always wanted to tell the triumphs, the setbacks, and everything in between,” she wrote.
Mageean explained that the book is the story she always wanted to tell, capturing the full reality of an international athletics career rather than just the moments on the podium. While the original focus was on competition and progression, the project took on a deeper significance following her cancer diagnosis, which became an unexpected but central part of the narrative.
“I never imagined cancer would become part of that story, but life had other plans and we’ve worked hard to make this an honest and raw account of my path so far,” she said.
My Greatest Race looks back on her rise through Irish athletics, major championship success, the disappointment of missing the Paris Olympic Games and the personal strength she has drawn from family, friends and supporters throughout her career and recovery.
The book will be available in shops from June 18th, with pre-orders now open.
