Newcastle Way Marathon

The Newcastle Way Marathon & Half Marathon $[onShortDate} follow the way marked Newcastle Way trail in County Down.

The Marathon course starts close to the centre of Newcastle town centre and follows a route up through Tollymore forest and then across to Castlewellan forest, before making its way down to Murlough. Runners go through the National Trust Murlough Reserve and onto the beach where they follow the beach to finish in Newcastle.

The Half Marathon, starts just outside Castlewellan forest and follows the same route as the marathon back to Newcastle. Those taking part in the Half Marathon will have the option to take a bus to the start.

The terrain is a great mix of forest tracks, some small sections of rural road, rural lanes and a little sand.

These events are self sufficient and entrants follow provided GPX files, carry their own food and water, along with a small mandatory kit. There are no marshals or course markings, other than existing way markers.
