Countdown to race day!

🏃‍♂️ Slí Mhúscraí & Slí Naomh Fionnbarra Ultra – Push Your Limits! 🌄💪

Prepare for an extraordinary endurance challenge along two iconic trails through Cork’s breathtaking landscapes.

📅 Date: Saturday, 8th February 2025
Time: 08:00 AM
📍 Location: Starting at Baile Mhic Íre, finishing at The Top Of The Rock, Drimoleague

🎽 Event Details:

Distance: 71.50 km

Climb: 2,140 meters

Event Difficulty: 10 (Extreme) – Long distance, significant elevation, and challenging terrain.

Marking: Fully marked route.

GPS Usage: Allowed.

🎒 Mandatory Kit (Level C – Advanced):
Participants must carry the following items:

Waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams

Hat or buff

Gloves

Whistle

Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored

Foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent

Waterproof full leg cover

Means to carry a minimum of 500 mL water

Emergency food

Map of the route/area

Compass

The kit to be carried during the race will be confirmed at registration based on weather and other factors. Random checks may be conducted. Failure to meet the kit requirements may result in disqualification.

💡 Key Notes for Participants:

Trackers will be used to monitor participants.

There is a cut-off time at the 52 km mark (Carriganass Castle) of 4:00 PM (8 hours).

🌟 Route Highlights & Aid Stations:
The route connects the Slí Gaeltacht Mhúscraí (SGM) with St. Finbarr’s Way (SFW). The journey begins at Baile Mhic Íre and concludes at The Top Of The Rock, Drimoleague, featuring scenic woodland trails, castle views, and valley crossings.

Start: Baile Mhic Íre

Small country roads and woodland trails until joining the SGM at 6.5 km.

Aid Station 1: Béal a’Ghleanna (16 km) – Drinks and snacks.

Aid Station 2: Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh (25 km) – Drop bags, hot drinks, snacks, and toilets.

Aid Station 3: Gugán Barra (36 km) – Drinks and snacks; transition from SGM to SFW.

Aid Station 4: Carriganass Castle, Kealkil (52 km) – Drop bags, hot drinks, snacks, and toilets. Cut-off Point.

Aid Station 5: Mealagh Valley Community Centre (60 km) – Drinks, snacks, and encouragement!

Finish: Top of the Rock, Drimoleague (71.5 km) – Hot food, drinks, beer, wine, showers, and rest.

⚠️ Navigation Advisory:
Follow the yellow waymark arrows for SGM and SFW trails. Be cautious in fog or mist as visibility may be reduced. Ensure you have the route downloaded or an alternate navigation method to stay on track.
